The origin of DBDS goes back to late 1960’s. Beginning as a primary school in the year 1968, with the name "Shriram Vidyalaya" and medium of instruction in Hindi. The school made rapid progress as it became a Senior Secondary School in the year 1988. Due to the perseverance of the management and staff and their relentless pursuit for academic excellence and character building, the school won many laurels. Not only in academics but also in athletics and other co-curricular activities.
By 2008, Kota, once known as an industrial city, has emerged as an educational city. To keep pace with this transition and to educate global citizens, the school got affiliated to CBSE board with the name "Dr. Bansi Dhar School" and the medium of instruction became English. It is a co-educational school, with all the modern amenities like Digital Classrooms, Art room, high tech computer lab, digital library, fully equipped science labs, language lab and sports complex.
The School is promoted by Sir Shriram Social Development Society with registration number 60227/2007.
First Chairman of DCM Shriram Industries Limited
Dr. Bansi Dhar, born in March 1930, was the grandson of Sir Shriram, founder of the D.C.M. Group of Industries. He completed his schooling from The Doon School, Dehradun and St. Columbus School, Delhi. He graduated from St. Stephens College, University of Delhi with a Beachelor of Science degree. He studied Management and Business Economics from Hoeferlin Academy for Professional Education in erstwhile West Germany and further studied at Harvard Business School, U.S.A, for his Advanced Management Program. Finally, he recieved his doctorate degree from the University of Agra.
Dr. Bansi Dhar was the Chairman and Managing Director of DCM Limited and of Hindustan Vacuum Glass. He was also Director on the boards of Jay Engineering Works Ltd., Shriram Refrigeration Industries Ltd., Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd., Usha International Ltd. and Kothari Sugar & Chemicals Ltd. In all, the goods manufactured by these companies include fertilizers, PVC, heavy chemicals, vanaspati, sugar, industrial alcohol, vacuum glass products, textiles, electronics, sewing machines, electric fans, diesel engines, hermetic compressors, water coolers, fuel injection equipments, pistons and rings. He was also President of Punjab Haryana and Delhi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PHDCCI), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Delhi Factory Owners' Federation, Indian Sugar Mills Association, Vanspati Industry, Confectionery Industry and Alcohol Industry at various points of his life.
Besides involvement in the private sector, he also served in the public sector bodies with distinction. He was the Chairman of Sub-committee on Heavy Chemicals Fertilizers and Pesticides for 6th five-year Plan of U.P. Govt. and Member of Indian Sugar Industry Inquiry Commission and Development Council of Sugar Industry.
Dr. Bansi Dhar is remembered as a patron of quality education in the capital city; his efforts in the development of Shriram College of Commerce, Indraprastha College and Lady Shriram College, all three renowned colleges of the University of Delhi, are very well known.
